Two upcoming Optimum Releasing titles won a total three Golden Globes last night.

Mickey Rourke won Best Actor (Drama) for his truly iconic comeback performance in Darren Aronofsky’s Venice Golden Lion winner The Wrestler. Rourke’s Globe win follows nominations from SAG, the London Critics and the Independent Spirit Awards, and Best Actor awards from critics in Boston, Chicago, Washington DC and Toronto.

The second Golden Globe win for the film came in the shape of Best Original Song for Bruce Springsteen’s memorable song The Wrestler.

Visionary director Darren Aronofsky’s tale of love, loneliness and the inescapable lure of the arena is set for a UK opening this week – on January 16.

The Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) was won by Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona, featuring remarkable and much nominated performances by Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Rebecca Hall. The latest film from the legendary director marks a return to the peak of his powers, as he skilfully crafts a hilarious and touching look at love and relationships.

Optimum opens the film in London’s West End on February 6 prior to a roll out across the UK and Ireland on February 13.
