The National

American indie-rock outfit.

Matt Berninger leads the American indie-rock outfit from Brooklyn as they perform in support of their new album, I am Easy To Find.

The New York-based five-piece are on tour promoting their album High Violet, which follows on from their 2007 album, Boxer. It's a real family affair for The National with singer-songwriter Matt Berninger leading two pairs of brothers, the multi-instrumental Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Scott and Bryan Devendorf. The band enjoys occasional contributions from Padma Newsome from fellow indie-rock band Clogs. The group originally formed in Ohio in 1999 and it wasn't long before they built up momentum releasing The National and Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers, and mini-album Cherry Tree, which preceded their signing to Beggars Banquet in 2004. Their 2007 album sold three times more copies than their previous releases and helped the band towards achieving a more underground indie status. The latest album High Violet is released with their new label 4AD and is the first full-length to be recorded in the band's studio in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn. The album features songs in their usual style but with unconventional new sounds and lyrics that are deep and though provoking.
