Fourth grade pals George Beard and Harold Hutchins run amok at Jerome Horowitz Elementary School. When one of their pranks backfires, the boys end up in the office of mean-spirited school headmaster, Benjamin Krupp, who vows to separate the lads. In retaliation, George uses a ring from a box of cereal to hypnotise Krupp and the tykes convince the headmaster that he is a superhero called Captain Underpants, who gallivants around town wearing a pair of white y-fronts and a flowing red cape.
