Sheriff David Dutton presides over the God-fearing residents of Ogden Marsh with his deputy, Russell. The peace is shattered when family man Bill Farnum commits a horrific act against his wife and child. Other friends and neighbours change noticeably and David discovers the answer in the local creek which feeds into the water supply. Before he can contain the problem, masked soldiers storm the stricken town, identifying those lucky few who have not yet contracted a deadly illness.
