Boheme Kitchen & Bar
19-21 Old Compton Street
I popped into the Boheme Kitchen and Bar first, half wondering what the hell I was doing here, half imagining myself ending the night on the bar leading the patrons in a rousing rendition of Bon Jovi's It's My Life.
Locating myself back into reality, I found the Boheme to be a hopping place, with dimly lit tables, a steady trickle of well-dressed concertgoers and a harassed looking bartender, dark hair in disarray and kohl-lined eyes smeared with sweat. Refusing to give a name or an accompanying photo, she mentioned that most of the people who come in order simple martinis, Cosmopolitans and the Bloody Mary. Most notably, "Mojitos are really popular for some reason."
Regarding mixed drinks, she mentioned the Polish Spring Punch a delicious-sounding concoction of honey vodka, chardonnay and champagne. When asked for a free sample, she gave me a pitying look. I quickly move on to the bar specialties.
"We serve absinthe, but other bars serve it too," she offered. Another bartender nearby suggests her favorite, the spiced rum with coke.
