The Apprentice boss called one “a double barrel tosser” who had been “born with a silver spoon in mouth” and the other “the one with hair that used to be ginger”.

At stake was for all three was their most precious possession – their popularity.

Sugar bet Morgan he would have more Twitter followers by Christmas, while Evans was picked as a target because his book has challenged Sugar’s in the charts.

“You’ve managed 182k [Twitter] followers in five months, I’ve got 67k in one week,” said Morgan.

“You doing the same flow chart I am?”

When Evans mentioned sales of his book were “breathing down the neck” of Sugar’s own tome, enough was enough for the TV entrepreneur, but his comeback had the unfortunate effect of disrespecting the nation’s shopworkers.

“U only got there as my readers could not get to the shops due to snow,” he said.

“Your readers work in the shops.”

“Is Lord Sugar saying that no one who works in a shop should read his book? What a bizarre message for a retail entrepreneur!” said Evans.

“You are mixing me up sunshine never been in retail in my life,” fired back Sugar.

“Hope facts in your book more accurate.”
