Emma Watson, who previously wore a dress from the designer (up-and-comer William Tempest) to the premiere of The Tale of Desperaux, looked pleased at the red-carpet ready selection of frocks. Joining her in prime seating location were Sophie Alexander-Katz, Colin McDowell and the Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander.

Although London usually gives itself an inferiority complex about fashion week (“All the good designers leave!”), Tempest has been tipped off as the city’s next claim to sartorial fame. With comparisons to Alexander McQueen and experience with British design star Giles Deacon, the 22-year-old (yes, 22) seems to have a big career ahead of him.

He said backstage that he got the idea for his strongly architectural and well tailored collection from a visit to Hampton Court Palace, where he snapped photos of the Tudor detailing he loves so much. His collection also catered to actual royalty, with the last dress seeming perfect for Elizabeth I if she had a slight curiosity about hallucinogenic drugs.

After impressing Watson, Tempest now has his sights set on dressing Dita von Teese. “I’ve met her a few times, so I have to get something on Dita,” he said. “Or Girls Aloud.”
