Every cell relies on this water to function correctly and it is essential for the transport of nutrients and the elimination of waste - especially important after the party season! Evian water is not only totally pure, it contains natural minerals that your body needs."

"One of the most effective, natural and least costly ways to help your body is by drinking 8 glasses a day of water, especially pure water such as Evian."

Staying hydrated at work

Most of us spend the majority of our time in the office and these environments are invariably dry - lower humidity suits computers, but it is not so great for their operators. A dry atmosphere dries out skin and eyes, which can leave you feeling tired.

Dehydration can also make you feel sluggish and tired and feelings of dehydration can often be confused with feelings of hunger, so when those 11am munchies strike, drink a large glass of water and wait for 20 minutes.

NICKI'S TIP: How much water is enough? To work this out, take your bodyweight in kilos, multiply by 14.2 grams and this will equal your daily fluid need in grams. Then, divide this by 113 to estimate fluid needs in cups (e.g. if you weigh 63kilos; 63 x 14.2 = 895 grams divided by 113 = 8 cups of fluid per day).

However, if you are exercising then you may need to increase your water intake accordingly. Remember to drink little and often.

15 easy ways to drink your 8 glasses of water a day

Sometimes drinking the recommended daily intake of water can be a real challenge. Here are 15 tips to help you accomplish that feat! Try a couple of the below tips each day to reach your recommended daily fluid intake.

1. Drink two glasses of water immediately after waking up, you lose water through breathing whilst you are asleep and so you can wake up dehydrated.

2. Have a big glass of water at every transitional point of the day: when you first get up, just before leaving the house, when you sit down to work, etc.

3. Feelings of dehydration or thirst can often be mistaken for feelings of hunger! If you feel peckish between meals, sip on a bottle of water. You may find that your feelings of hunger subside.

4. Have one glass of water every hour, on the hour, while at work. When the work day is done you will have drunk 8 glasses of water, the recommended amount.

5. Substitute a cup of boiling hot water with a drop of honey for tea or coffee.

6. The key is drinking with a straw - you take bigger gulps and drink much more.

7. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime to water. Warm water with the juice of 1 lemon taken in the morning on an empty stomach is a great way to start the day.

8. Freeze little bits of peeled lemons, limes, and oranges and use them in place of ice cubes - it's refreshing and adds some fruity flavour.

9. After each trip to the bathroom, drink one glass of water to help rehydrate your system.

10. Try swapping some of your fizzy drinks for a glass of water.

11. Carry a small water bottle at all times and drink when you're not actually on the go; while waiting in a bank queue, sitting on the train, etc.

12. Make it convenient - keep a big, water bottle full on your desk to sip throughout the day.

13. Bring a large bottle of water to work and try to drink it before you leave. If you don't finish, try putting it in your bag and drinking it while relaxing at home.

14. Try keeping a small bottle of water handy while watching TV, doing laundry, making dinner, etc.

15. Get your recommended intake from a 2-litre bottle of water - it's a good way to keep track of how much water you are drinking.

WHEN SHOULD YOU INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU DRINK?
When you consider the average body is made up of 60% water, it is easy to appreciate that water has a very important role to play in feeling and looking healthy. It is estimated that there are about 45 litres of water in a 70kg man and a little less in a woman the same weight (women have more body fat, which displaces some of the water).

It is a good idea to get into the habit of drinking regularly throughout the day (see my tips) - every 2 hours or so. Many people forget that even in winter fluid losses occur easily. Heated homes and offices have a drying effect.

How can I tell if I am drinking enough?
Thirst usually kicks in when there is a water deficit of 200-300ml. If you feel thirsty, have a large glass of water to meet your fluid needs rather than a small sip. During exercise fluid loss can be rapid and therefore, thirst is not a reliable way of replacing lost fluid. Drinking every 15 minutes during sport is recommended to help keep you hydrated.

Do I need to drink more if I exercise?
Fluid requirements increase when exercising because the body loses water through sweating. Water is needed by the body to help it maintain its normal temperature and so it is vital that you replace the fluid lost through sweat. How much more you need to drink will depend on:

- The length of time spent exercising - Just under a ¼ litre bottle of water every 15 minutes is a rough guide to needs during exercise. You can also try weighing yourself before and after exercise, if 1gram equals approximately 1ml then you can see how much fluid your body has lost during your workout.

- The intensity of exercise - Although less water will be lost during a gentle jog compared to a hard training session, drinking before, during and after all types of exercise is recommended.

- The weather or environmental temperature - if you are in a hot environment, naturally you will sweat more and lose water faster. Regular water breaks are needed in both hot and cold weather to replace body water lost through sweat.
