Maximo Park (The Forum - 28 May 2008) Maxïmo Park, Mystery Jets, Blood Red Shoes & Pete And The Pirates have announced they will play a special show at the Forum, in Kentish Town, on Wednesday 28th May in aid of The Royal Marsden Hospital and the No Surrender Charitable Trust. The show has been put together by Maxïmo Park after a good friend of theirs, Jason Boas, was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, at the age of thirty-three, and was given 6-12 months to live. It is also in memory of Claudia Anselmetti, who tragically died of cancer three years ago. |
Madness (The O2 - 19 December 2008) Flushed from the incredible successes of 2007, a year that saw them making jubilant appearances at Glastonbury, Benicassim and Bestival, as well as completing a critically acclaimed sell out UK arena tour, Madness have announced an exclusive one-off show returning to London's 02 Arena on 19th December 2008 for a traditionally triumphant Christmas knees-up. |
THE ORIGINS OF LONDON ROCK & POP...
London has a rich and vibrant music scene.
Many will think back to the 60s when The Stones were rocking Hyde Park and The Beatles jamming away at Abbey Road. For others the heady days of 70s punk showed London's true calling. Clubbers will point to the dance music explosion of the last decade as the capital's true defining moment.
Who cares! The real strength of London's music scene has been this very diversity. Its enduring significance is to have been at the epicentre of popular music for the latter half of the century.
London can lay claim to some truly memorable homegrown talent; The Rolling Stones; David Bowie; The Clash; The Sex Pistols; Primal Scream; The Chemical Brothers and hey, lest we forget All Saints and The Spice Girls. It has also been a settling ground for nurturing the talents of a far flung musical population.
With so many bands based in one city, live music choice is unparalleled - every sound is just a short tube ride away. In pubs, in clubs, in stadiums; hundreds of bands play live in London every night of the year.
