Our Picks

Bon Iver (Apollo Victoria Theatre - 7 December 2008)
Bon Iver. Photo Credit: Matthew Abadi. C.C. License.Justin Vernon and his indie-folk band, whose name is an Anglicised version of the French term for "good winter", have earned comparisons to the Flaming Lips and Sparklehorse. Bon Iver earned critical acclaim for the album For Emma, Forever Ago - released in 2007 after Vernon spent three months in a cabin in the woods.

Oysterband (The Forum - 12 December 2008)

These Canterbury folk rockers have played for more than 30 years and are still going strong, with a European tour that finishes in London near year's end.

Tracy Chapman (Hammersmith Apollo - 15 and 16 December 2008)
Tracy Chapman. Photo Credit: jurvetson. C.C. License. We can think of more than just 'one reason' why we'd like this Cleveland-born songstress (and rumoured ex of Alice Walker) to stay in the capital. Her soulful, folksy sound has kept her on the charts since the '80s, and she has no reason to put down that guitar now.

Patsy Cline (Millfield Theatre - 5 March 2009)

Noah and the Whale (Shepherds Bush Empire - 6 March 2009)

Noah and the Whale have staked their reputation as promising up-and-comers with the hit folk track 5 Years Time.
