London Telecom Tower, Fitzrovia, West End

A memorial to 1960’s optimism, this was the tallest building until eclipsed by the mundane NatWest Tower in 1981.

Following a bomb attack in 1971, the tower and revolving penthouse restaurant have been closed to the public.

It’s still worth making a pilgrimage to Fitzrovia (near Oxford Street) to see how this steel and concrete pinnacle rises out of the modernist mass below.
