Small-town Montana lawyer Laura Wells is at the end of her tether, dealing with a client, Fuller, who refuses to heed her advice about the pointlessness of suing his former employers over a workplace accident. Meanwhile, ranch hand Jamie becomes fixated on a young lawyer called Beth Travis, who teaches night classes at the local school. Elsewhere in the state, Ryan Lewis and his wife Gina are at odds about how to raise their teenage daughter.
