Laura Trott, double gold medal winner on the London Olympics cycling track, is to hit the roads in two-weeks time to start a world record attempt as part of RideLondon, the annual festival for bikes and their riders.

The record in question is the Longest Single Line of Bikes, which currently stands at 916. RideLondon organisers hope to have 2,800 cyclists riding in single file around its traffic-free, eight-mile FreeCycle course, which takes in major sites like Buckingham Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral.
“I’m honoured to be asked to be the official starter,” said Trott.
“I know how amazing it feels to break a world record on your bike so I’ll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines – I hope they do it!”
Once the record attempt is out of the way, the FreeCycle course is to open up to the expected 500,000 riders expected to take part in RideLondon.
Other highlights of the festival, which is held on 2 and 3 August, include races in St James Park and the chance to ride the same Surrey-London route used in pro- events.
