SEX AND THE CITY 2‘s box office takings in the UK – versus those in the US – could seal the deal for the next movie in the franchise to be filmed and set in London.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, SATC 2 flopped to a poor third spot in the US box office league table, behind both Shrek Forever After and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

But in the UK, Sarah Jessica Parker and pals topped the ticket sales charts and is now the third most successful opening of the year, with Alice in Wonderland and Iron Man 2just ahead.

Two days ago, SATC 2 director Michael Patrick King revealed he was already planning a third movie set in London.

“London is definitely the venue for us,” said King.

“We will come to the UK, I promise.”

But King confessed that his “promise” hangs on the box office success of Sex and the City 2.

“Obviously we’ll have to see how we do this time around, but I’m hoping the third will happen,” he said.

Now that the box office figures as well as the creative juices are flowing in London’s direction, it can only be a matter of time before our four heroines head for what King calls the series’ “spiritual home”.

“The support from the fans has been wild and we’d love to come here and film,” he said.
