|New Evidence on Diana Death|
- Witnesses and Mercedes the keys to inquiry, Lord Stevens reveals
THE MAN leading the inquiry into the death of Princess Diana has dropped hints about new evidence unearthed by his investigation team.
“We've got new witnesses and new forensic evidence,” said Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
That forensic evidence could be centred on the Mercedes car containing Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed that crashed in a Paris tunnel in 1997.
Stevens revealed his team had taken possession of the car and that it had been dismantled. Some conspiracy rumours surrounding the couple’s deaths theorise that the car had been tampered with.
At this stage, Stevens is not prepared to go public with the new evidence. “I can't tell you at this stage,” he said when asked who the new witnesses were, but he did say that his inquiry, “draws a line under this one way or another.”
