Irish rockers U2 scooped a staggering five awards at the Grammys last night(08.02.06).
The stars won accolades for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, Song of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Group for Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own and Best Rock Song for City of Blinding Lights.
Frontman Bono told the crowd: "If you think this is going to go to our head, it's too late."
Elsewhere, pop diva Mariah Carey, who was nominated for eight awards, won three gongs, including Best R&B album for The Emancipation of Mimi.
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson broke down in tears after scooping the prize for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Since U Been Gone.
Hip hop star Kanye West won Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album for Late Registration.
Record of the Year went to Green day, for their hit Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
The audience was also treated to a host of dazzling performances, including a show-stopping opening number from Madonna and animated band the Gorillaz. They wowed the crowd with a duet of the cartoon group's Feel Good Inc and Madonna's Hung Up.
Other highlights included Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys singing an impromptu duet of Higher Ground, in tribute to the late Coretta Scott King.
