|Queen is on the Throne ‘For Life’ Says Cousin|
- Message from the top scuppers likelihood of an early Charles take-over
PRINCE CHARLES’S chances of becoming King anytime soon look remote after a close confidante of the Queen said Her Majesty would never retire.
“It's not like a normal job, it's a job for life,” said the Hon Margaret Rhodes, who is the Queen’s first cousin, pointing out that to abdicate would be to break the vows made by the Queen on her coronation 53 years ago.
“She wouldn't consider not continuing to fulfil those vows until she dies,” said Rhodes.
Recent years have brought increasingly frequent rumours that the Queen might hand in her crown and let son and heir Charles take over, but today’s heavily stage-managed interview with Rhodes on the BBC seems to have put paid to those suggestions.
The interview was also timed to coincide with the Queen’s birthday - she’ll be 80 on Friday, over 20 years short of the age reached by her mother.
