|New Lord Mayor's Wife to Fly Over Parade|
- Hundreds of thousands expected for ancient inauguration festival
NEARLY 800 years after the first gig, tomorrow (Saturday) sees the annual Lord Mayor's Show parade through - and above - the streets of London.
Not to be confused with the plain old Mayor of London - that's Ken Livingstone - the Lord Mayor of London represents businesses in the City of London financial district, albeit in a primarily ceremonial capacity these days, and has 'shown' himself to fellow Londoners since 1215.
The Lord Mayor's Show is London's biggest non-Royal bit of pageantry and features hundreds of floats, horses, marching bands and ancient carriages. The event regularly attracts hundreds of thousands of onlookers.
This year's new Lord Mayor is to be Alderman Michael Oliver, whose game wife Sally is set to fly on a trapeze tethered to a hot air air balloon over the parade route for her part in the festivities.
