Senior Residential Worker- Social CareDescription: Do you think you can empower young people to make positive life changes? Are you an experienced confidential Residential Worker knowledgeable in different approaches to working with young people? Do you have the resilience, empathy and consistency to work with some of the most marginalised young people in Surrey? Senior Residential Workers are a critical position within our Children’s home and have a role encompassing direct work with young people and a significant element of managing the activities of the team and strong shift leading. Surrey Residential Homes accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Our homes are inspected regularly by OFSTED and most have been judged as either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ or are working towards it. We are very proud of the quality of our residential services for children in Surrey. As a result we have invested in our homes and staff and plan to continue this, in order to achieve a service that is ambitious, innovative and responsive to the needs of young people in our care. The Role As a Senior Residential Worker your responsibilities will include: •undertaking responsibility for individual children/young people in accordance with link worker/keyworker responsibility •shift leading and co-ordination of staff activities •participating in the implementation and monitoring of care plans for individual children •maintaining good communications and continuity of work practice within the home. •Report writing •engaging actively in collaboration with others in the residential service in the development of effective practice for the care and containment of young people with challenging behaviour and complex needs •supervising residential workers to ensure that records are maintained and tasks completed To be considered for this role you will have: •an NVQ3/Diploma or equivalent In Children and Young People or be working towards its completion. •Substantial experience of working with young people within a residential unit, with an understanding of some of the complex issues many children and young people in care may have knowledge of child development and the effect of trauma •awareness of the existence and effects of social disadvantage and discrimination •aspirations to “make a difference” and a view to practice in a restorative way •a positive, adaptable, confident, resilient and self aware approach to work •a committed and flexible attitude, a sense of humour will also help! An enhanced CRB disclosure and a Children's and Adults barred list check will be required for this role. Please contact the manager to discuss your application further, if you wish to. Abot the Team This role is based at Cheyne Walk Children’s Home located in Horley (near Gatwick) in East Surrey. We offer care and accommodation for up to 6 young people aged 13 - 16 (on admission). Our ethos focuses on attachment theory and person centred approaches, seeking to enable young people to form trusting relationships with adults. We invest heavily in a restorative approach, encouraging young people to develop consequential thinking and empathy. We actively promote young people’s rights and respect their individuality. We are committed to providing residential care as a positive choice, recognising that young people will come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have different experiences and needs as a result of this. We strive to support young people to understand the circumstances that have led to them being looked after and to deal with the physiological impact this may have had on them
