Mental Health Support worker | East London | £7.90 ph- Social CareDescription: Objectives To be responsible for physical, emotional and social needs and well-being of vulnerable adult service users with severe mental health difficulties which may include aggressive and challenging behaviours, approaching this duty in a professional, kind and respectful manner, preserving service users' dignity and self respect at all times. Accountabilities and Activities To provide the highest standards of holistic care and attention for service users. To participate fully in the overall care of service users including where necessary assisting with washing, dressing, continence and personal hygiene as recorded on individual care plans. To assist in maintaining safe levels of care following best-practice. To deal appropriately with aggressive, violent or challenging behaviour minimising confrontation and risk to staff, service users and others. To help provide essential physical and mental stimulation by participating in recreational and social activities with service users individually or in a group. To assist in maintaining accurate records in accordance with The Care Standards Act and legal requirements. To carry out instructions by senior staff in an efficient and conscientious manner. To attend staff training and staff meetings. To have the ability and willingness to achieve statutory training, or training identified as necessary by line manager. To report any accidents/incidents relating to service users / and or staff as per procedures. To ensure that the Company policy on confidentiality is upheld. To maintain a courteous and considerate approach to dealing with colleagues, service users, relatives and others. To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to the Company's Health & Safety and welfare policies and procedures. To Report bad practice or harm to any Service User within the Home. To carry out such other duties as may reasonably be considered as attaching to the position and within the capabilities of the post-holder. Qualifications, Training and Experience A minimum of 6 months experience of working in a relevant care setting Proven effective communication skills Good literacy skills. NVQ 2 in Care (or working towards it) During the first six months of employment the post-holder will be required to produce original certificates of competence as above or as relied upon for appointment and must demonstrate the following: Effective team-working skills Consistent acceptable performance of duties 1, 2,3,6,7 and 10 Observed effective performance on at least five occasions of duties 4, 5, 11 and 14 Observed effective performance on at least three occasions of duty 9 Fulfilment and maintenance of duties 8 and 12 Diligence in respect of duty 13
