Puerto Rican security guard Paps lives with his Italian wife Ma in Utica, New York and their three children, Manny, Joel and youngest boy Jonah. It's a fiery marriage, punctuated by moments of domestic violence that forces Paps to temporarily leave home and Ma to take to her bed, battered and bruised. The brothers are left to their own devices, running wild in the neighbourhood. While Manny and Joel take after their old man, Jonah is cocooned from harsh reality by his mother.
