Obie lives in the city's South Central neighbourhood and is the only white man in an area inhabited predominantly by African Americans, Latinos and Koreans. His neighbour is hardworking single mother Millie, who has eight homeless children under her roof and another on the way. When the four officers accused of beating Rodney King are acquitted, the city descends into chaos and Obie and Millie must become unlikely allies to get her children home safely.
