Orphan Naoufel is sent to live with his uncle in Paris after his parents are killed in a car accident in northern Africa. He finds work as a pizza delivery boy, a daily drudge until he spies beautiful librarian Gabrielle and falls giddily under her spell. Naoufel pursues Gabrielle and attempts to get closer to her by working as a carpenter in the workshop of her uncle Georges, Meanwhile, his severed hand crawls across Paris, overcoming various obstacles in the hope of one day making Naoufel whole again.
