Heimat Is A Space In Time

Documentary filmmaker Thomas Heise, who was born and raised in East Berlin, draws on his personal history and genealogy to chronicle decades of turbulent German history from the First World War to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Shot predominantly in black and white, Heimat Is A Space In Time uses words from letters, diaries and other documents to explore life in Germany through the eyes of ordinary families, who were subject to powerful and destructive forces beyond their control.
