Thirtysomething Rose Dooley has tried in vain to turn her back on the past as the daughter of renowned spiritualist Vincent Dooley. She now works as a driving instructor, connecting with the living rather than the countless spirits, which inhabit her town. She is contacted by widower Martin Martin, who wants to rid his home of a meddlesome late wife, who continue to cause havoc as a poltergeist. Rose is reluctant to intervene until Martin's teenage daughter Sarah suddenly levitates.
