Three generations of Gullah - the descendants of West African slaves - are at odds over the decision to move from their isolated island home off the coast of South Carolina to the American mainland. The implications of the move weigh heavily on different family members and as tensions ignite, the women defiantly juggle responsibilities as mothers, carers, lovers and protectors.
