Notes from Formula 1 Racing royalty/a new designer for Harrods: racing collars, lots of cashmere and a pair of red-and-green leather gloves are part of what men today need to look good.

Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula 1 legend Bernie Ecclestone, has just launched a menswear collection, to be sold exclusively at Harrods. FORM features subtle racing details and the smooth tailoring of Savile Row staple Edward Sexton, who has worked with the Beatles and helped Stella McCartney get her start.

Alexa Chung guest DJed the FORM launch party at Harrods on 2 October, getting help from The Horrors’ Faris Badwan and watching Princesses Bea and Eugenie in the crowd.

Harrods is stocking FORM right between the Dior and Gucci collections, so the 20-year-old designer can be proud to see her work next to the best from big names like John Galliano and Frida Giannini.

Petra admitted earlier this year that critics could come out in a full force for another It girl collaboration. “They think, ‘She’s just putting her name to something and it will be tacky’,” she said, “but they are pleasantly surprised by how hard-working I am, and by the way FORM has come together.”

If Bernie’s budding designer has her way, then the laurel wreath logos she places near the hems of her garments will show up at Knightsbridge for quite some time.
