Auditions for the role of Jesus Christ on Superstar have attracted thousands of wannabes from all over the world.

Show supremo Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed 3,000 would-be singing stars from as far afield as New Zealand and Israel have flown in to try out for the lead role in a touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
He told ITV1’s Daybreak: ”We had a boy in from New Zealand; a boy from Israel; we had somebody come in from Lithuania. I mean it was extraordinary where people are coming from and I think we’ve had 3,000 people in to audition for the role, including a few girls – one girl who was very, very good and was really terrific.”
Auditions for the role – originally played by Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan – are taking place in London, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff, and the hunt for the new star will be shown on Lord Lloyd Webber’s new ITV star-search programme.
The successful candidate will take on the part in an arena tour of the production, which will open at the O2.
Lord Lloyd Webber has previously found stars for West End productions of The Sound of Music, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver! and The Wizard Of Oz through his BBC shows.
