As part of the annual charity fundraising telethon held on BBC One, viewers will get a sneak peak of the Christmas Special of the sci-fi series and see a special one-off sketch written by showrunner Steven Moffat, which will open bidding on the clothes worn by the Doctor, played by Matt Smith, in the episode The Doctor’s Wife.

The lot which will go under the hammer includes Matt’s tweed jacket, shirt, black jeans, black boots, braces, bow-tie and a watch worn in the episode.

Of the auction, Matt said: “I’d say the tweed jacket or the bow tie are the most iconic – although the boots are my personal favourite. I hope people donate generously for BBC Children in Need because it’s a wonderful cause – and we’ve got to beat last year’s total.”

In the episode where he wore the attire the Doctor’s TARDIS was transported into the body a woman, portrayed by Suranne Jones.

Of the auction, Matt has also urged people to give generously, saying: “I saw Terry Wogan on TV the other night, and thought come on! Let’s make more money! So hopefully we can raise a good amount.”

The auction of the Doctor’s clothes, and a copy of the script written by Moffat and signed by Matt from the specially filmed sketch, are part of BBC Children in Need’s Once in a Lifetime online auction being held at www.bbc.co.uk/Pudsey.

The auction closes on Monday 21 November.
