Whilst all of London clubland seems to be closing around us, finally some good news! Two ex-members of The End’s programming team are starting up a brand new venture called We Fear Silence, taking over Fridays at The Arches in London Bridge. The exciting and diverse line up of parties includes Gilles Peterson, Ben Watt’s Buzzin Fly, James Holden’s Border Community, drum & bass collective A Bunch of Cuts, Eat Your Own Ears and Warp Records – with loads more still to be annouced. The venue is a fantastic space, built under 4 railway arches, and has been inexplicably under the radar of most of London clubland – until now. The launch party is on March 6th with Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly.

The last 18 months have been a worrying time for London clubland. Although musically there has been plenty to get excited about, numerous closures have left London clubbers wondering whether the capital is losing its edge. Two members of The End’s programming team are looking to change all that with an exciting new project for 2009.
The new venture takes over a central London venue on Fridays with an electrifying line up of parties under the banner , bringing together some of the UK’s most forward-thinking promoters to banish any notion of quiet from the capital! The line up includes Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly, Gilles Peterson, Chew The Fat!, James Holden’s Border Community, drum & bass collective A Bunch of Cuts (Marcus Intalex, Calibre, D Bridge, Doc Scott and Klute), Eat Your Own Ears and Warp Records with plenty more parties still to be announced.
The project will make use of an incredible site that has, inexplicably, been under the radar of London clubland for almost a decade. The Arches, located minutes from London Bridge tube, consists of four extensive railway arches divided into three rooms of music, two comfortable bars and a large undercover garden area for smokers and those wanting some respite from the intensity of the dancefloors. The exposed brick walls give the venue a real underground feel, at the same time offering state of the art lighting, visual & live capabilities, plus a ribcage rattling new NEXO GEO soundsystem being installed specifically for these nights. The Arches is the first venue in the UK to have this system fitted, which can take any genre you throw at it, and is renowned for its killer Sub-Bass. The venue is currently undergoing other significant refurbishment.
One half of the team behind the venture, Ajay Jayaram explains: “Increasingly, I’m struck by the amount of people who love such a broad range of music – people who name check Ben Watt and Marcus Intalex in the same breath, or who can talk passionately about dubstep whilst downloading James Holden’s latest techno mix. The Arches provides a fantastic space for exciting music from across the spectrum; we’re launching with some of our favourite artists and promoters and will build it from there – bringing in new parties and fresh concepts.”
Partner Ryan Ashmore adds: “As well as providing a stunning new home for some amazing musical talent, this will give clubbers a more diverse musical selection for a Friday night, in Central London. The general philosophy in London clubland is that Fridays tend to be about alternative sounds and Saturdays are more House and Techno orientated – we aim to challenge that philosophy. Going out on a Friday also gives you two days to recover…why sit around all day Saturday waiting to go out?”
Things will kick off on March 6th 2009, promising to inject some much needed life into the capital’s late night music scene. In the mean time, watch this space…
