- Album of the Week:
Think Tank
Finally got my hands on a copy of Blur's new album Think Tank, the first since the departure of Graham Coxon. We've had a couple of listens in the office to general appreciation. That said its use as background music is somewhat limited. It's a concoction of styles and sounds thanks in no small part to Norman Cook's handiwork and the band's decision to record several tracks in Morocco. I pity my poor neighbours over the next few days as I'll be pumping this one right up. It's a rush against (hopefully not Out Of) time as I'm going to see the new line-up at the Astoria on Tuesday (sold out, sorry). Can't wait. Click here for the album Think Tank.

- My Pick:
Eels, London Royal Festival Hall
Wed, 2nd July 2003, 7.30 PM
I've got a growing soft spot for the Eels. Fronted by E (real name Mark Oliver Everett), they mix introverted themes with pumped up guitar riffs to produce some very catchy melodies. I got to see the band during their last European tour. Stuck in a snow bound Zurich I queued up real early and got my hands on a return for the sell out gig. At that point my Eels knowledge was minimal yet their composed performance left me aghast. Amazon must have been delighted at my return to London as within hours I was snapping up the band's back catologue.

This time around fans can expect cuts from last year's Soulblighter album as well as a rather large helping of classic Eels tunes such as Susan's House and Novocaine. If you've seen them before, no doubt you'll be returning, if you haven't enjoyed the privilege take the plunge and I'll see you at the Festival Hall.
