Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall are expecting their first child in the New Year, Buckingham Palace has announced today.
A post on the official royal website stated: "Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the New Year."
The post added: "The Princess Royal [Princess Anne] and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news.
"This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for The Princess Royal."
Phillips, the Queen's eldest granddaughter, and Tindall tied the knot in July 2011 at the Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh.
The couple's news is the second royal baby announcement in the last 12 months after Prince William and Duchess Catherine revealed they were expecting their first child. Catherine is due to give birth on 13 July.
