In a text message sent to NME magazine, he wrote: ”It’s Pete Doherty. Thought you might be interested to know that I’m booked in to go to rehab at the end of April.”

The 33-year-old singer/songwriter – who dated supermodel Kate Moss from January 2005 to July 2007 – admits he is ”kind of sticking” to his February pledge to give up injecting heroin.

He explained: ”I’m kind of sticking to that. It’s a huge difference. Just because it comes to be the focal point of the hour, or the day. Or the afternoon. Getting the gear and … it’s just handing yourself completely over to your addiction.

”As opposed to having things under control. Although you can never really have things under control.”

Pete admits it is a ”big deal” when he has days off from heroin, but he doesn’t want to get to the stage where he is ”boasting” about being clean from drugs.
When asked if he has given up heroin completely, he said: ”Well that’s the idea, using heroin substitutes, Subutex. For example, between last Thursday and Sunday I didn’t use any gear at all. And for me it’s [about] reaching the point where I’m not boasting about being clean for four days. I wouldn’t have to do that. But it was a big deal. And it was a case of on the Monday going back to London and being sick on the Eurostar and scoring really, I didn’t really need to. It’s kind of pointless.”
