ALAN JOHNSON, the former Home Secretary, is set to go up against Boris Johnson in the next election for London Mayor.

“He wouldn’t dismiss [running for Mayor], because he is a Londoner through and through,” a friend of Johnson told the Independent.

“He cares deeply about the capital.”

Johnson (A) would first need to beat former mayor Ken Livingstone for the Labour nomination ahead of the 2012 election.

That’s no easy task, given the latter’s ongoing popularity, but Johnson would likely count on the support of the national party, especially if it’s headed by Johnson-ally David Miliband, the front runner in the race to become Labour’s new leader.

Readers are right to be worried about a total Johnson takeover as there is a chance a third Johnson could stand for mayor, in the form of Green Party London Assembly member Darren, currently chair of the Assembly’s Environment Committee.

What we need is for the Liberals to find someone called Carol Johnson, so the line-up would be AJ, BJ, CJ and DJ. Makes it easier when you’re sticking pins in that Alternative Vote form.
