A variety of world-famous artists plus live music, fashion, film and food have been lined up for the festival’s long-weekend, which this time around goes under the themes of Architecture, the Asian Sub Continent, Travel and Minimalism.

“It’s a real box of delights,” said London Mayor Boris Johnson, “with a range of world class artists, exciting performances and activities that range from building your own home to bicycle polo, in a festival that showcases East London’s brightly burning creative spirit. All hail East!”

The festival, spread across Central East, Hackney and Stratford, takes place in venues ranging from local churches and nightclubs to the Museum of London, the Barbican and the Whitechapel Art Gallery.

Performers include Alasdair Roberts, Anni Rossi (pictured) and Muntu Valdo, all set to play on stage together.

Other highlights are an evening of jazz with the Portico Quartet; an architecturally inspired performance by the London Chamber Orchestra; Cycle East, an exploration of London by bike (with gigs to enjoy en-route), as well as loads of hands-on activities like classes in yoga, Bollywood dancing and Asian cookery.

The East Festival continues in east London from until Tuesday 9th March.
