These morsels and many others can be found in the newly published Focus on London, a great, big bumper book of facts and figures about London that’s described by Boris Johnson as being a help to “win that most unattainable of accolades – the pub quiz”.
Focus on London has been published annually since 1909 and this year’s edition marks the centenary by delving into the records from 100 years ago to find a city scarred by Scarlet Fever, terrified by TB and using new ultra hi-tech crime fighting methods such as finger prints.
“This compendium is home to a truly staggering collection of facts and figures about this great city of ours,” said Johnson.
“It’s full of fascinating gems, from the longest river to the tallest building to the number of tourists who visit the capital, that can be used to astound your friends or, better still, help win that most unattainable of accolades – the pub quiz.”
