Rage Against the Machine Confirm Free No.1 Celebration Gig in UK.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE have confirmed they are to play a free gig in the UK - probably in London - in 2010 as a thank you to fans who made Killing in the Name Britain's Christmas No.1.

The single was part of a campaign to put one over on the X Factor, whose fans hoped the talent show winner's Joe McElderry song The Climb would take the top chart spot.

"As promised we will play a free concert in the UK in celebration of this incredible upset victory over the heavily favoured X Factor single," said RATM's Tom Morello.

"We are coming and it will be the victory party to end all victory parties."

One possibility for the gig’s venue is thought to be Hyde Park, scene of both major open-air rock concerts and huge political protest meetings over the years.

They're doing it in one place because it makes it a 'one-off' performance, which makes it special! If your that much of a fan, you'll travel a few hours for it (I know I am!). Would be full of propper RATM fans, not people who just 'appreciate' them and turn up. Would be AMAZING - 40k propper fans...

How about they stage their free gig at Reading, where the festival is held? And yes I am saying this because I only live like 10 miles away :P

I think instead of hosting just 1 free gig somewhere obvious, i would rather pay to see them but in my home city (Norwich) so i dont have to bother with traveling. also this would allow more people to go and see them without people fighting over a miniscule amount of tickets for 1 gig.

For frenchies who would die if they cannot see this, london is much better than any other city ;)

Why don't they put it directly in the middle of the country. Won't that make everyone happy? I hate it when bands just limit themselves to london, it is so boring, coz i have to travel 4 hours to see anyone i want to watch.

To be fair, a huge percent of the population do live in and around london.

London London London...you get everything. There are other places in this country you know. I'm sorry this just annoyed me

only around 10/11% of people in the UK live in London you goon

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2010-02-11 00:36.

actually it's nearer 15% (7 million at last census) which increases to 25% if you include the south east and east which is a massive percentage in a very small area, also when you take into account the percent of people that are likely to want to see Rage - being generally young, it makes much more sense to stage it in london a city with a high proportion of young people...and easy place for everyone to get to... via public transport 'you goon'

Hang on, your dangerously close to including cornwall and devon in the south of england, there's about 5 young people between them :p
