Ten day showcase for alternative movies starts this weekend

Madness Reigns at the London Independent Film Festival.

OVER a hundred films hit our screens over the next ten days as the London Independent Film Festival gets underway, with a movie about Madness opening the proceedings on Friday 17.

Directed by Julian Temple, The Liberty of Norton Folgate follows the legendary ska band around London and takes in performances at the Hackney Empire.

Temple's film isn't the only one to have London among its cast of characters.

For instance, in Beyond the Fire an Irish ex-priest finds love in our fair city, while Zebra Crossings goes south of the river with an assortment of teenagers and Credo is a spooky tale of black magic set in an abandoned building in the centre of town.

As well as the films, there are plenty of other things going on, like filmmaking classes, open interviews with film industry types and a closing night party on the South Bank.

The London Independent Film Festival runs from 17 to 27 April at various venues across London.
