ROUGH SLEEPER numbers in central London are at their lowest since records began, according to the latest research by Westminster Council.

The council conducts periodic Street Counts to monitor the rough sleeper situation and the most recent count found 69 people on the streets compared to 89 back in March.
“This is a historical low, which shows that our strategy is working,” said Councillor Philippa Roe, who is in charge of housing on the council.
“Our strategy is to get people off the street as quickly as possible and into accommodation, where they can start to get their lives back on track.”
Twenty years ago, hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of people slept rough in central London each night.
