Thousands to join in celebrations for major Hindu festival
DIWALI comes to Trafalgar Square this Sunday. with tens of thousands of revellers expected to show up for the annual Hindu festival.
The event on the Square kicks off at 3pm with a traditional circular dance known as a Garba and ends at the sounds of Club Asia Radio, with plenty of other stuff in between, including bangra music, a Star TV presentation and Aarti, special prayers featuring lamps.
In English, Diwali is called the Festival of Light, which is why you see what look like Christmas lights in some high streets across town at this time of year. In some boroughs, they do indeed double up as Christmas lights.
It's also a bit like Christmas and New Year rolled into one as it is all about renewal, as well as love and forgiveness.
