WINTER WONDERLAND opens this weekend, a multi-faceted Christmas-themed event that has the added attraction of being free to get in.

Set across a large chunk of Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland features the biggest ice-rink in London, a German Christmas market that’s double the size of last year’s huge effort, something bouncy and scary called the Bungy Dome and a 50m big wheel (about the height of Nelson’s Column) which promises spectacular views over central London.

There’s also a toboggan slide, a helter-skelter, a haunted mansion, an old-fashioned type carousel, lots of Christmassy things to eat and drink and the occasional appearance by a fat, white-bearded man dressed almost exclusively in red. If you’re good, of course.

Winter Wonderland opens for business this Saturday and goes right through until 4 January. Entry costs nowt, but they say it’s best to pre-book tickets for the ice-skating, which are a tenner for adults, £7.50 for children.
