HOT on the heels of Saturday night’s Last Drink on the Tube party, the government is to issue guidelines to parents on how much alcohol their kids should be taking on board.

“We need a culture change about drinking with everyone from parents, the alcohol industry and young people all taking more responsibility,” said Children’s Secretary Ed Balls.

As well as the Good Cop advice on how much alcohol can safely be drunk at various ages, there are also likely to be Bad Cop measures such as a criminal record for persistent teenage drunks, off-licenses to be mandated to ask everyone who looks under 21 for ID and even prison for parents whose kids flout under-age drinking laws.

Teenage drinking and the fear of anti-social behaviour associated with it is the motive behind new London Mayor Boris Johnson’s ban on having a drink on most of London’s public transport.

Six Tube stations were forced to close among chaotic scenes on Saturday night as thousands of partying travellers staged a last-night protest against Johnson’s authoritarian scheme.
