Calypso Carnival Heads for the West End

Seven Dials event extends that summer Notting Hill feeling

THE NOTTING HILL Carnival was just a month ago, but stand by this Saturday for more Caribbean type celebrations with The Seven Dials Caribbean Calypso.

The emphasis here is more on traditional brassy calypso, samba and soca rather than the bass-heavy sound stages of Notting Hill and, in truth, it's a much smaller affair.

But that won't stop thousands of people heading for the Neal's Yard area near Covent Garden for the event, which goes on for most of the day and half the night.

As well as the music, there will also be Caribbean food and drink served up by some of the local outlets and stalls. It all starts at 11am and carries through until 9pm, with kids activities designated for between 2pm and 4pm.
