piece back in 1997, 'indie' station XFM sold out to media giants
Capital Radio in a move that many say makes a mockery of radio
licence awards. 1997: FEATURE: XFM : "London's most wanted radio station"The original champions of Indie/Alternative/Britpop
broadcasting, Xfm, have begun broadcasting on the remaining London
radio frequency (104.9 FM). They beat off competition from media
bigwigs led by Ginger's Chris Evans. Xfm have The radio station's most recent airtime spell in October 1995 was accompanied by the XFM CD featuring a star-studded array of indie talent; with Oasis,The Boo Radleys, The Cure, Transglobal Underground, Drugstore, Garbage and many more giving their support for the pioneering broadcasters. Xfm is backed by the might of Chris Parry of Fiction records and Robert E.Smith of the Cure. Based in Charlotte Street, Bloomsbury, London, the radio team hope to be on air by the Autumn. cutting edge musicThe emphasis is on music rather than talk with support for emerging British talent a top priority.
