|Jude Law To Be Hamlet on West End Stage|
- Not to be the Danish Prince until 2009
JUDE LAW is to star on stage as Hamlet in 2009, it has been announced.
The latest in a growing list of film stars to tread the West End boards, Law will be directed by Kenneth Branagh for the production, which will be produced under the Donmar Warehouse banner, though staged at the Wyndham theatre.
"Jude was on record as saying he wanted to tackle Hamlet at some point," said Michael Grandage, artistic director of the Donmar.
The Donmar's temporary colonisation of the Wyndham theatre begins in the autumn of 2008 and gives it a chance to take in bigger audiences than at its smaller Earlham Street home.
The switch doesn't herald an abandonment of Donmar roots. Far from it, as the Donmar has finally got hold of the deeds on its original home.
"This will allow us all to look to the future with real confidence," said Michael Grandage. "Now there is some legacy there."
