Crystal Palace Park to Welcome Tour of Britain
- Latest bid to tempt Londoners to get on their bikes

Crystal Palace Park to Welcome Tour of Britain FOR anyone who caught the cyclist bug at the recent London leg of the Tour de France, there's another chance to get a bike fix at Crystal Palace Park this weekend as the Tour of Britain gets underway.

It's the first time the Tour of Britain has started with a prologue time trial – in which cyclists race against the clock – and tens of thousands of spectators are expected to turn up at the south London venue to mark the occasion.

Among those on show will be British rider Geraint Thomas who won praise for his efforts in the Tour de France and five of the sixteen teams scheduled to take part in are British.

"We hope this will encourage even more people to take up cycling," said a spokesperson for Transport for London, which is co-sponsoring the event and which has presided over a large increase in commuter-cycling over the last ten years.

The prologue time trial pedals off at 3.00pm, but there’s plenty of other racing going on before that, starting at 9.00am.
