| Millions More Tourists to be Lured by Olympics - Survey predicts tens of thousands of jobs will be created by 2012 effect THE 2012 Olympics is set to hand the London tourist trade a huge boost, according to a survey of previous games conducted by hotel firm Travelodge."If tourism follows the trend of previous Olympic host destinations, there is the potential to generate UKP3 billion in additional inbound tourism expenditure and 75,000 new jobs over the next 10 years," said Kurt Janson, the survey‘s author. Using Janson's model of comparing previous Olympics, the size of the UK tourist industry would shoot up from UKP14 billion, the amount it's worth now, to UKP24 billion by 2016. That equates to some seven million extra tourists. On the other hand, if 2012 brings the kind of summer weather we’ve had this year, there might be some doubt as to whether anyone would want to come back ever again. |
