Trafalgar Square Turns into a Village Green
- Lawn laid on the paved area for first time ever

Trafalgar Square Turns into a Village Green. Copyright Visit LondonFOR the first time in its history, Trafalgar Square will today be covered by grass.

There will also be deckchairs and picnic areas on the square more famous for pigeon droppings and political demonstrations. The turf will be there tomorrow as well after which it is to be rolled up and re-laid at Bishop's Park in Fulham.

The Trafalgar Square stunt is all part of Village London, a campaign by the London tourist people to plug into Londonís reputation as both an especially green city and one made up of a series of small villages.

"From the rural feel of areas like Bexley Village and Wimbledon, to urban villages like Marylebone and even Canary Wharf, the campaign will help everyone discover Village London," said James Bidwell, head man at Visit London.
