|Potters Field Park in Carnival Re-Opening|
- Music, theatre and pottery the backdrop to City Hall-side festival
OKESTRA DEL SOL will provide the fanfare at Potters Fields Park, near City Hall, tonight, the starting point of a three-day celebratory festival to mark the re-opening of the park.
"Although there were calls for the area to be turned into a multi-storey car park, I think this much-improved green space is a genuine addition to the area for locals and visitors alike," said London Mayor Ken Livingstone of the park, renewed with a UKP2.7 million cash injection.
Though it is a slice of marketing hype, Orkestra Del Sol's description of itself as having "the swagger of a Balkan wedding band with the riotous energy of a Latin carnival," captures something of the atmosphere the band is capable of creating. They'll be performing at Potters Field Park on all three days of the festival.
There's plenty more to see and hear, from exciting street theatre to recognition of the area's historic links to the pottery industry, for instance in the form the Arts Tours Show, which features hundreds of glowing terracotta firepots.
The full programme is here and there's more on Orkestra Del Sol here.
