20mph Speed Limit 'Would Save Lives,' Says Mayor's Transport Ambassador
- Speed bumps could also disappear if new rule was introduced

20mph Speed Limit KEN LIVINGSTONE is thinking about introducing a London-wide 20mph speed limit, according to the Mayor's own road safety ambassador.

"Making 20mph the normal speed limit would save lives and money and give a major boost to cyclists, who would feel safer," said the Green Party's Jenny Jones, ex-Deputy Mayor to Livingstone, but still one of his key transport advisors.

Jones said the Mayor might require some "arm-twisting" to come round to her way of thinking, but Livingstone has already backed numerous road safety measures in London, including 20mph roads and zones near schools.

Not all roads would have a 20mph ceiling, but that would be the default speed limit instead of the current 30mph.

Though they might see the scheme as yet another attack on their driving freedoms, the bonus for motorists, according to Jones, is that with a lower speed limit, there would be no need for speed bumps.
